This large female-focused cast play tells the inspiring and heartfelt story of the woman who became the face of Rosie the Riveter. While Roses story is central, our true ‘Rosie’ isn’t just one woman, but a team of women who overcame struggles with relationships, class, labor, and motherhood by finding strength in each other.

Rose Will Monroe: The Real Rosie

The play’s protagonist, Rose, is based on the real life figure of Rose Will Monroe. Born in Pulaski Co, Kentucky, Monroe moved to Michigan to work at the Willow Run Manufacturing Plant. Throughout WWll, Rose built B-24 bomber airplanes alongside a growing female workforce. In 1944, actor Walter Pidgeon visited Willow Run to create a propaganda film encouraging the purhcase of war bonds. Infinitely charmed to learn that the plant had a riveter named Rose, Monroe gained notoriety as the “real” Rosie.
